Having begun his rugby education with Wigston RFC aged seven, Brett joined Syston when he was 11-years-old, before being invited to join Tigers Academy at the U-16 age-group. He has since represented Leicestershire, the Midlands and England at U-16 and U-18 levels, as well as captaining his country at the U-19 age-group. His leadership skills have also been recognised by the club, with the versatile back row player leading Tigers during part of their Guinness A League campaign throughout last season. |

By the end of the 2006/07 season, Brett had totaled 67 appearances for Tigers and was approaching his 50th start for the club. He made history on his Tigers first-team debut against London Irish in September 2003 when he and older brother Louis became only the second pair of bothers to don club colours in the same fixture. |

Matt suffered a dislocation in his neck which had trapped his spinal cord. It has left him paralyzed from the neck down and more determined than ever from the neck up. |
